doll photography is an art by oki-oki doll photography is an art by oki-oki
I tried looking for one of these, but I was at a loss. I think. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough XD

~

People often shoot off their fat mouths and assume that because they aren't people, they're easy to snap and upload. Not so, not so.

It's not easy to convey emotion through a blank face, it's not easy to make them look real. It's not as easy as you bitch it out to be. Before you bitch, you try. Unless you have, I don't want to hear it.

It's a finely tuned art. If you're going to dis it, remember that the crazy doll people travel in packs.

I agree, but it seems to me that people who think doll photography, seem to think BJDs. I don't have a BJD, and seeing as how they're more popular, my pictures get pushed aside....

Amen. I'm still pretty new to the hobby, but a lot of my more experienced doll friends will tell people that there's a lot of effort put into taking good doll photos. Heck, the few photos I've taken of mine are pretty mediocre and it still took quite a bit of effort getting his poses right.

I never tried with a BJD doll or the like, but I do like to make up my Porcelain dolls every now and then, styling hair and clothes, but never actually painted their faces too much or exchanged eyes. It's hard enough to get them how you want, and although I don't do photography, just the doll process for a porcelain face with hair is really hard.
Photography isn't easy at all, and adding the doll concept, I'm sure their hair, eyes, and clothes won't cooperate. They're very small and painting faces must be a pain the the ass because you need the tiny details ;.; I'm sure many many other things occur, too...

The doll itself, IMO, is an art form, and with the added photography is doubles as an art form because you have to make up the doll as well as take a good photo <3 I'd love to have a BJD doll but I don't think I could take care of it well enough ;w;

It's so true~ I haven't encountered any problems with people claiming my dollie photography isn't art yet, but I'm not all that great, so I don't get a lot of gallery traffic yet, though.

Honestly, I'm a little fascinated that people can even claim that it's NOT art! I mean, really? If the logic is that doll's aren't real, so they don't require any effort to photograph... Well, then wouldn't that make 95% of still life photography 'not art'? @.@

Yay!! Very true indeed! I'm lucky enough to have a family that sees it as an art, but other people have a hard time with it :P
I gotta throw this on my profile, if that's all right ;D

You have something against fat people? I'm tired of bony bitches like you using "fat" as a negative connotation for everything. And are you saying that if someone states that uploading 35 pictures in one day of the same doll they just bought is not art are you are going to flame that person? you really have to work your manners.

Could you take that any more out of context? She said "fat mouths" meaning people who talk a lot, she didn't say anything negative about over weight people. And, is "bony bitches" positive in anyway?

Really Kettle, be nice.

I totally agree! I love BJD photography and it's not easy photographing them and it takes real talent to bring them to life in photos. I'm still working on it myself. ^^

Thanks for making this stamp! *added*

I think the dolls are beautiful and I agree with you that it is an art.

Some of those photographs are beautifully taken and I know how expensive those dolls can be so I don't blame people for wanting to show them off...

However, it does annoy me a little bit that some people I watch will suddenly start posting 15+ photographs of their doll(s) all at one time. Spamming up my inbox with something I don't even watch them for so I'd say that is about the only negative thing about it.

Even though I don’t photograph dolls, I definitely consider them as an art form. When I first saw doll photography, I was a little confused. After taking a second look, I fell in love with it. :)

I've never tried, but I've seen enough to know that it's definitely an art... *O* ...and a hard one, it seems. :O Maybe one day I'll try... and fail. :P

So very true. People don't realize that it's much harder than they think, because a doll's expression doesn't change. It's a blank stare, and you have to use your imagination to find the emotion. Displaying what that blank face is hiding takes skill that not everyone has.

P.S. I know oki-oki moved accounts, but I'm commenting here anyway because I had something to say. End of story.

Of course it's art. Each photograph can have a meaning behind it, just like a photograph with real people.
Who would call doll photography not an art? o_o; I just cant understand it.

Tis veryyyyy true! It can be incredibly hard to take photos of dolls! Lighting can be especially tricky with the paler skinned ones...not being able to use the flash can be a pain in the butt sometimes **damn you fuzzy photos!!**

Doll photography is just as good as any other kind, and it really does take some time and patience to get it evern remotely good ^^

and it is too and art :(
God knows how many taken doesn't look like what they do in real life, thus rendering the photo shitty at times :(
I'm so sad that some of my photos look awesomer in the camera than in pictures, or that he looks nicer in real life than in photos.

It's hard dammit :(

Yay, someone who understands what real photography entails!!!

I'm not really fond of photography, no matter the subject, but I respect those that take the time and effort to actually pose and create their subjects, instead of just taking a pic of the sky and going, "LOLartOMG!!1!"

If I had a subscription, I would put this in my journal.
If taking pictures of live humans is an art, then why can't taking pictures of fake people be an art? In fact, some dolls are live humans. Although they can't speak or move on their own, their expression tells a story. When people dis art like yours, they aren't realizing what they're saying, which is the exact reason why I absolutely hate most of the human race.
Humans need to be exposed to different types pf art to learn the true meaning of life and also to learn that even a simple line on a white piece of paper is art. The meaning of life is right there, we just need to learn how to reach out and grab it. I like your art because it reminds me of this concept.

HOMG I totally agree with you! Dolls are a hard subject to take especially since they either already have a set emotion face or just a blank one =/ but what I find worst is the limited ability of (or uncooperative) movement sometimes I have to chuck a eraser piece in their joints for it to stay long enough for a picture.

It's really the same with all 'art' photography (as opposed to holiday snapshots)... nothing irritates me more than people saying "photography is easy, it takes a few seconds to take an image" or, "you'll pass your course easily, it's only taking pictures".

If only it were that simple.

Mind if I steal this? :3
